About the Teacher
My name is Susan Riepe. I love to spend time with my family and work with children!
My Family |
I have been married to my husband, Mason, for over 16 years. Although he is in the military, we have only lived in North Carolina and Alabama during his career. We have three wonderful children. Our oldest daughter, Taylor, is a junior in high school this year and our son, Nate, is in fifth grade. Kinsley is our newest addition and was born in February 2017! We also have three dogs (Baxter-beagle mix, Bart-schnauzer mix, Lacy-chiweenie).
In my free time, I enjoy reading, running, and playing board games. |
Education/ Experience |
When my daughter was young, I began volunteering in some of her classes at church and realized that I had a passion for working with children. I had already earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, but decided to go back to school to become certified to teach. After completing my elementary education coursework at Fayetteville State University, I taught third grade for one year in North Carolina.
In 2008, my family moved to Alabama and I was fortunate enough to teach first grade and transitional first grade at Lakewood Elementary School from 2008-2011. During that time, I also completed my MS in Literacy with a Reading Specialization from Capella University. We then relocated to North Carolina where I taught first grade from 2011-2016 and served as my school's Teacher of the Year for the 2015-2016 school year. Last year, we came back to Alabama where I taught first grade at LPS. This will be my first year of teaching second grade and I could not be more excited! I am passionate about teaching children to read and making learning both engaging and exciting for students! |
